At Soda Springs, carbonated water bubbles up out of the ground. The log enclosure surrounding the springs was built in the 1880s by John Baptiste Lembert, for whom Lembert Dome was named. Outside the log enclosure, notice other areas where water percolates up into the meadows. Iron content in this area gives the mud its rusty hue. To reach Soda Springs, walk a short distance from Parsons Lodge parking or Lembert Dome parking area . Trails to reach Soda Springs are only reachable by vehicle when Tioga Road is open, typically late May or early June to sometime in October or November. Tioga Road closes after the first significant snowfall. Overnight parking on this road, including this trailhead, ends October 15.
