Take in an iconic view of El Capitan, Sentinel Rock, Cathedral Rocks, and Bridalveil Fall. Although the glaciers that carved Yosemite Valley melted about 10,000 years ago, the Merced River continues to shape this valley. In January 1997, floodwaters spilled over into the parking lot here, up to a depth of 6 feet! Parking is extremely limited at Valley View. A vault toilet is available by crossing Northside Drive. Seasonal Information Located on the west end of Yosemite Valley, Valley View can be reached by vehicle year-round. Caution: swift-moving, cold water is very dangerous and even deadly. Anytime the river is flowing strongly, such as in spring, stay away from the water. Accessibility There are designated accessible parking spaces available. This viewpoint is visible from the parking area.
