Washburn Point
Parks & Views

Enjoy this beautiful overlook that provides views of Half Dome and the eastern crest of the Sierra Nevada. From this vantage point, visitors will see Nevada and Vernal Falls as well as Illilouette Fall. The point is named for the Washburn brothers, who were early Yosemite concessioners in the hotel and transportation businesses in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The Washburn interests funded the construction of the original Glacier Point Road in 1882. Tips & Seasonal Information Reachable by car when Glacier Point Road is open, typically from approximately late May through October or November. Vehicles longer than 30 feet and vehicles pulling trailers are not allowed past Sentinel Dome parking lot and therefore cannot reach Washburn Point. Glacier Point Road closes after the first significant snowfall. Overnight parking is prohibited beginning October 15. For current road and weather information, please call 209/372-0200. From mid-December through March, cross-country skiers can experience this view after skiing 10.5 miles, conditions permitting. Accessibility There is one designated accessible parking spot at the north end of the lot.
